2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. shortening (not butter flavored)
1 tsp. salt
Cut above ingredients together and add:
1 beaten egg yolk (reserve egg white) and 2/3 c. milk (Note: will be sticky, cut in milk and egg well). Divide dough in half. Form first half into oval ball. Lightly flour ball and center it between two sheets of wax paper. Roll out first ball into an oval shape to lay in 11x17” pan. Peel off 1st sheet of wax paper and flip into pan (avoid getting dough on sides of pan). Peel away 2nd sheet of wax paper. Top with 1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling. Roll out rest of dough for top crust same way as above. Lay on top of cherries. Brush top crust with beaten egg white. Cut some slits in the top of crust. Bake at 375* for 30-35 minutes (until light brown). When cool, drizzle with powder sugar frosting.
Powder Sugar Frosting
Melt 2 Tbls. Margarine or butter
Add 1-2 tsp vanilla
Add powder sugar and Milk until you get the amount and consistency you desire.
Note: Easy way for frosting: Put frosting in plastic ziploc bag. Cut a small corner of the bag away and push frosting out of hole onto pastry.
